Fulton Ferry Riders, ca. 1880Four vignettes suggest that as the morning progressed, the nature of the ferry traveler changed. The snoozing six o'clock A.M. commuter with a basket slung over one arm contrasts with the more affluent nine o'clock rider, a top-hatted businessman who sits erectly in the seat (no need to catch up on sleep, given his banker's hours).
